BRENDAN FRASIER

Aloha,

My name is Brendan Frasier. I'm married, live on Maui and have three children. As a child, I was fascinated by the sounds coming from that little black box called “RADIO”. I went through high school and a year and a half of college, taking many speech courses, but never deciding what I wanted to do for a career. I left college and worked at a variety of jobs, all the while helping my community with various projects, which required a lot of public speaking, which I enjoyed. The thought of entering the world of radio never occurred to me, until, thirteen years later, I heard an ad on the radio for the Apprentice-Mentor program.

I did have friends in the business and asked of their opinion of the program. Everyone I talked to in the business knew Mr. Trout and told me of his honesty and professionalism. I called him, did an “air check” at KMVI Radio (now the competition) and was later accepted as the first Maui student in the program. I got my first job there, monitoring simulcasts, and other work, working part time, and eventually got my big break when one day as soon as I came in our satellite receiver for the FM was on the blink. We were simulcasting. So guess who didn't have time to panic, jumped in with both feet, and later I filled in for vacationing people, because although I didn't think so, everybody liked what they heard.

I then heard of an opening at KNUI, applied for and got the job as a weekend man. After one month, I got my first full time job, working the 12- 4:30 a.m. “Redeye”. Two weeks after that I got promoted to 7pm to midnight and am currently training a new deejay for the weekend shift.

I can honestly say that the Apprentice-Mentor program has been indispensable in furthering my career. Oh sure, I may have landed a job anyway, but would I be training people in Maui's most successful station if I didn't have this training? You tell me. I'm convinced.

Don't wonder if you have the talent, if you didn't have it, you wouldn't be reading this letter. You have the opportunity, you have the best people around you, people who care and want to see you succeed. Your only limitation will be how far you push yourself. Mr. Trout will do whatever needs to be done to make you the best…he took me through some hard times, and was always there when I needed him.

After thirteen years, I smile when I go to work, smile at work and smile coming home, all because one day I turned on the radio and said, “this is it”. Yes, it costs more, but the best isn't cheap. I looked into it. This is the best, no doubt about it. It's your future…believe in yourself, and The Apprentice-Mentor Association, and anything is possible.

Commit yourself……..and GO TO IT!!!
