KVEN/KHAY is in Ventura, California…for its slightly unaffordable housing and bogus surf with the wonderful smog from Los Angeles just fifty miles southbound. KVEN is the powerhouse news/talk station in Ventura County, loaded with great personalities that average 15 years experience. So I'm surrounded with some great stories and helpful pointers that are invaluable.
My shift consists of recording the news and changing music reel for KHAY. With KVEN I read the news at the top of the hour, write news stories, play the Dodgers and the Lakers and record make-good spots. It's a loadful and it keeps me on my toes, especially when there's an emergency situation playing on the police scanner.
I chose a news station because of the great experience you receive being involved with every aspect of the broadcast. I have learned a great deal and been in some strenuous situations, like right now I just accidentally hung up on a news story. Well, Larry King is almost over so I gotta go read some news. This is great!
